nativesho2

  1. Pack Versatile Clothing Pieces. An easy way to win your battle against your suitcase is to wisely choose the clothing pieces you’ll be bringing with you. Opt for items that can work with multiple ensembles so you can double up their wear for less space. It’s also important to only pack clothes that you’re sure of wearing; vacation can be a tempting time to flaunt a new purchase, but do try it on first and see if you’re comfortable wearing it.

  1. Use Mesh Bags to Organize Your Items. Apart from helping you conserve space, using mesh bags or small pouches to store your items also aids in keeping your things organized. Categorize and store your toiletries, medicines, gadgets, and tickets and passes in their respective bags for an easier find on the whole duration of your flight.

  1. Keep Travel Docs and Passports in a Separate Pocket. Keeping all your important documents and papers in a separate holder is imperative. Not only will this limit your chances of fumbling through your things in the airport, it’ll also leave you with one important item to keep your eyes on. For an easier access, set the front pocket of your carry-on bag as documents holder where you’d keep important papers during your trip.

Pockets are designed so you’ll have places to keep small knick-knacks and frequently used items like your phone, pen or eyeglasses. Store these things in pockets where you can easily see and access them during your trip.

  • 4 Amazing Beauty Benefits of Coffee

There are only a few things in life that’s as wondrous as coffee. We know it all too well as the drink that helps us survive our work days, but whether in bean, ground, extract or liquid form, the magical drink can also go overtime in helping any girl with their beauty concerns. Here, we’ve rounded up some of the surprizing, yet amazing, beauty benefits that your cup of Joe can give.

    o-COFFEE-HEALTH-BENEFITS-facebook

    1. Eliminates Puffy Eyes. In a world full of social obligations and work deadlines, most of us don’t always get enough sleep – resulting to dark under-eye circles and puffy eyes. Well, as it turns out, your daily dose of coffee can actually be a great morning-pick-me-up for your eyes, too. All you’ve got to do is cool the grounds from your morning coffee pot and apply it on your eyelids and on your under-eye area. After that, soak in a relaxing bath for 20 minutes and gently rinse it off with cool water. Voila! No more puffy eyes!

    1. Brightens Tired-Looking Skin. A cup of Joe is already enough to perk up your mornings, but did you know that it can do the same thing on your skin? Surprisingly, the caffeine found in coffee also stimulates the skin and improves blood circulation, resulting to a radiant and glowing skin. Simply mix a tablespoon of ground coffee with two tablespoons of organic plain yogurt, and apply it on your freshly washed face. Once you’re done, rinse it off with cold water and say hello to a healthy-looking skin.

    1. Minimizes Cellulite. Regardless of how much we work out, cellulite is a problem that we all struggle to eliminate. Luckily, that struggle can already be reduced by using a coffee scrub. This scrub works by stimulating the blood flow in the affected area and tightening the skin, which will result to a minimized cellulite appearance.

    1. Nourishes Your Hair. The protective antioxidant benefits of coffee isn’t just centred on your body, since you can also extend that same benefits to your strands. By simply doing a coffee hair mask, you’ll be able to prevent breakage and get shinier hair – not to mention, leave your lock with an amazing smell.

    1. Exfoliates Skin. If you think about it, coffee actually has the best consistency an exfoliator should have. Just like your regular exfoliator, the caffeic acid found in coffee works by stimulating the blood flow in the skin and boosting the collagen production, leaving you with healthier and more radiant skin. So ditch your chemical-based exfoliator now and start exfoliating using your favourite coffee granules.

We know how much you love your cup of Joe, but after knowing these beauty benefits, you surely wouldn’t want to get your hands off your morning espresso.

  • Parenting is a tough road that is why not all took it. For parents out there, things are hard but at the end of the day, it will be fulfilling. As children, we sometimes do not understand the ways of parents especially our mothers. Mothers have their moments of spontaneity, rigidity and warmth which sometimes confuse us.

    web1_7609554_2

Sometimes, we do not easily fathom and grasp our mother’s methods just to show her unconditional love. There are times that we even misunderstand her. This is the time that we try to understand her methods and ways because her ultimate goal is to find what is best for us. We often hear things from our mothers. It might not make sense now but it will eventually.

Here are some pieces of advice that she relentlessly gives:

    • Half of all our money goes to savings: It doesn’t matter whether our aunt or grandfather slipped us extra dollars because it will go to our savings. We become impatient because we want to spend it all on Hello Kitty stuffs. We will find it worthwhile when we use our savings to buy things like maybe a used car.
    • Nothing good happens (to a teenager) after 10pm: For teenagers, the real fun begins at 10pm. Our mothers know that but sometimes, we ignore it thinking that she is all wrong. We will realize she is right (even if we swore that nothing will happen) when we are there.

    Mother-in-Law-Wants-You-to-Call-Her-Mom

    • Pretending she wasn’t waiting for us all night: When we are in college, going home late at night is a familiar occurrence. When we go home at 1am, we suddenly see our mom watching TV claiming that she “lost track of time”. This is the typical mother. We wouldn’t understand how worried she was unless become mothers ourselves.
    • Calling our grandparents: We sometimes do not understand why she keeps on telling us to talk to our grandparents. There are even others who find the company of their grandparents boring. Our mothers “force” us to get the phone and dial their numbers. At the end of the day, we find talking with our grandparents is fun.

These are just some things that we do not understand about our mothers but we will comprehend eventually. Growing here in Singapore is a challenge for some mothers but they haven’t lost track of their child’s development. Our mothers only value one thing and that is the family.

Somehow many Singaporeans prefer credit over cash. For Singaporeans with credit cards, they surely love credit cards because it yields different rewards and benefits. According to the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), as of May 2015, there are 9, 721, 768 credit cards in circulation. In addition, there are about 1.58 million credit card users here.

    6a00d8341c565553ef01a73da68f85970d

MAS furthermore discovered that the average credit cardholders hold at least six cards each. This is a pretty good picture telling us that most people here use credit cards. People have asked questions: how many are too many or how many are too few? Experts will say that there is no required or average number a cardholder can hold but everything will depend on how we manage the accounts.

It is crucial that we know how to manage our accounts if we do not want to have a poor credit thereby destroying our good name and reputation in the financial industry. Here are some things that we need to know about our credit cards and hopefully it can help us manage our accounts:

    0507_rip-off-credit-card-fees_400x280

    • Does the number of credit cards we have affect our credit rating? We have to know that before we are approved of a loan or mortgage from any financial institution, they will take into consideration our credit score. The credit score is the bank’s way of gauging whether we are good payer or not. The credit rating includes our credit history, spending habits and annual income. Here, the score ranges from 1,000 to 2,000 (2,000 being the highest and 1,000 being the lowest). This means that if we have credit cards and pay it on time, it will help our credit score compared to those who do not have credit cards.
    • More credit cards mean more rewards: Here, credit card companies entice people to sign up thru their rewards. Banks offer different credit cards to cater to the differing needs of consumers like travel credit cards and cash back credit cards. For cash conscious people, they will surely prefer cash back but for travellers, the travel credit card can give them travel related rewards.
    • Managing cards: As mentioned earlier, the number of card really depends on how we are able to manage it. The only trick is to find a system that can help us pay our bills on time every month. For example, we can sign up for GIRO deduction. GIRO deduction will link our credit card account to our bank account and automatically deduct our monthly bills without the hassle of falling in line. We only have to make sure that our bank account has enough money to pay it all.

  • You’ve spent a rather long and relaxing day in the poolside, and thanks to your trusty SPF, your tan lines are perfectly on point. That is until you notice that you’ve missed one major area that you thought would never get sunburned: Your scalp. Although aloe can treat the burn, it can cause your hair to look all messy and greasy, so we’ve listed down some of the at-home treatments that you can do and use to soothe your stinging scalp.

    78157860_XS

    1. Wash With an Exfoliating Shampoo. When it comes to washing your sunburned scalp, we suggest that you ditch your regular shampoo for a couple of days and opt for an exfoliating shampoo instead. During this time, your head will be desperate for moisture and using an exfoliating hair product is a great way to keep your scalp hydrated while getting rid of the flakes. It would also be a good idea to steer clear of dandruff shampoos as the chemicals in them will further irritate your scalp.
    1. Do a Green Tea Rinse. Within the first 24 hours, make sure that you perform a quick green tea rinse for your hair. Just steep two green tea bags and cool them in the fridge. Once you’re done shampooing, soak your hair in the tea mixture for five minutes before rinsing off. The antioxidants in green tea will help in soothing your scalp, as well as in alleviating the sting brought by the burn.

    1. Rinse With Apple Cider Vinegar. Apple cider vinegar has long been known as a miracle worker for the rest of the body, and this is why it’s no surprise that the acid found in the vinegar will also help in relieving your scalp burns. All you’ve got to do is mix one part of water and one part of apple cider vinegar to create a mixture that you can use once you’re done shampooing and conditioning your hair
    1. Use Milk. It may sound weird, but this pantry staple is often used by dermatologists to treat chemical burns. Just soak a clean washcloth in an ice cold milk and apply it to your scalp for five minutes. The proteins and enzymes found in milk is what promotes scalp healing, while the cold temperature is what reduces the irritation and inflammation.
    1. Refresh With Cucumber. Cucumbers has long been known as a great sunburn treatment, making it an ideal at-home remedy for scalp sunburns too. Just gently rub fresh cucumber slices on the sunburned area, and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing off. It’s cool and refreshing characteristics will surely help in easing the stinging pain of the burn on your scalp.

Just like skin sunburn, a scalp sunburn isn’t really that difficult to treat. Just use the aforementioned tips and your scalp will surely return to its healthy state.

  • Health screening tests are not only beneficial for adults, but also for children’s overall health. Through conducting physical check-ups and tests, Singapore physicians are able to identify potential health problems that a child might develop. Most childhood health complications can be corrected before they turn to worse health issues that might be carried on the by the child as he ages.

    school_nurse_420w-420x0

Through these executive health screening tests, regular physical activities, and a healthy diet, you’ll be able to teach your child on how he can develop a healthy lifestyle that can last a lifetime.

    1. Blood Pressure Test

Adults are not the only ones who should undergo this health screening test. Starting at age 3, your child can already start having his blood pressure measurements done regularly. A high blood pressure in children can be alarming and needs special medical attention. This can also serve as a symptom of an underlying disease, which might lead to some serious health complications if left unchecked and untreated. Do consult your physician with regards your child’s blood pressure measurements.

    2. Lead Testing

Another important test that should be included in health screening packages for children is lead testing. Lead can be harmful for your child, slowing both their physical and mental growth, and damaging some parts of the body. One of the common ways that children get lead poisoning is by staying in places with chipping or peeling house paint.
Experts in Singapore recommend that children ages one to two years old should already have lead tests. If you’re positive about the following incidents or situations, then it’s advised that you have your child checked earlier and more frequently.

    • Together with your child, you’ve live in or regularly visited any house built before 1950. (This includes preschool, day care centres, or a home of a relative.)
    • Your child’s brother or sister, or playmate has been treated for lead poisoning.

    3. Hearing and Vision Test

Vision tests on children should be done before they start going to school, or at around ages three to four, and should be frequently done as he ages. It is recommended to take a combination of health screening options in Singapore around the same age. If your child happen to experience any signs of vision problems (frequent headaches, squinting, blurred or double vision), as well as signs of hearing problems (poor response to voices or noises, slow speech and language development), then we suggest that you talk with your child’s healthcare provider.

    4. Anaemia Test

Anaemia is a common health problem in children. It is condition wherein an individual has lesser than normal count of red blood cells or haemoglobin in the blood. Treating this illness depends on the type of anaemia that your child has and its causes. To prevent this complication from worsening, doctors suggest to have your child undergo an anaemia test as early as one year old. Anaemia-related health problems can be avoided when anaemia in children is diagnosed at an early stage.

    5. Tuberculosis Skin Test

Have your child undergo this health screening test if he has been in close contact with a person who has tuberculosis, or has lived in an area where this disease is quite common than average. If the results show that your child has been infected with TB bacteria, then he will be advised to undergo certain medications to prevent the infection from becoming active and spreading to others.

    6. Cholesterol Level Test

A high level cholesterol is not good both for adults and children as it could possible lead to serious health complications. Children who have parents with a high cholesterol level, or relative who suffered a heart disease before age of 55, are advised to undergo this test as early as two years old. Even without family history of having high cholesterol, testing will still be needed if the child has a high blood pressure or is obese.

Being healthy means being fit. This sounds easy but executing it proves to be difficult. The Singapore government encourages us to stay healthy. In fact, private organizations join the call of the government for a healthier society.

    What-are-you-eating-every-day-Healthy-Food-Healthy-Life

We are actually in the right track. Healthy and fit people are now commended. For example, there is a competition that aims to seek the fittest people here in Singapore. The competition is called ELITE 2015 and it already started on April 19, 2015.

There were many contestants. The Men’s Open award went to John Cheah and the Women’s Open award went to Chew Feng Yi. It did not end there because Team Mobilus was also awarded for displaying camaraderie.

    Maintain-a-Healthy-Lifestyle-Build-Relationships

There are Singaporeans who were inspired of the display of a healthy life but there are others that simply ignore it. If we want to be healthy, we have to think of two elements. These elements are interconnected. This means that overall healthy life cannot be achieved without the presence of the other. Here are the two elements:

    • Diet: Healthy life is not only pure exercise. This is what others believe. We have to know that diet plays a vital role in ensuring a healthy life. We have to make the right decisions even when eating. If we want a professional advice, we can always employ the help of dieticians and nutritionist. If this is expensive, we can just research.
    • Exercise: Let us not devout all our time in exercise. Yes, exercise is very important but not to the point to straining the body too much. We can also ask the help of personal trainers because they of all people know how to maximize exercise.

Now that we know the elements, we have to make this happen.

Making that dream vacation happen is the greatest thing on earth. According to the Yahoo Travel survey, about eighty percent of people who are entitled for paid vacations are delighted of the number they have.

    yahoo-travel-expedia

With this, it is high time that we use them. So the first question begins: if we could go anywhere in the world, where will it be? Many Singaporeans have answers readied but there are others who are still confused.

If in this case we are confused, it might be easier if we consider the dream bucket list destinations of most Yahoo Travel readers. We can get ideas and insights out of it. Yahoo Travel surveyed about 2,000 respondents and here are some results of the survey:

    • What’s on the mind of travellers? According to the results of the survey, adventure is in the minds of readers so many of them preferred scuba diving, hiking and going on a safari.

handsome hipster modern man working home using laptop

    • Where do most of travellers spend their vacations? We have paid vacations and it is a matter of choosing the right time and choosing the right place. Seventy three percent revealed that they have paid vacations and sixty one percent of these confessed that they prefer spending time with their family than travelling.
    • What Yahoo Travel readers prefer: Many of the readers voiced out that they want to spend a week on a tropical beach say Barbados, the Caribbean and South America. There are also many who consider taking a safari. Africa is definitely the best place for safari but there are others who want to go to Morocco and ride camels.

It is time that we go out of Singapore and explore the world.

  • When was the last time you checked and updated your curriculum vitae? If it has been more than a year already, then you ought to check on it and make some necessary changes from the last time you edited it. Has it been three years since you switched companies? What computer programs and skills have you mastered in those years other than Microsoft Office? While you’re at the momentum of updating your CV, here are other changes that are worth applying in your résumé as well.

    Curriculum vitae written on typewriter

    1. Opt for Readable Fonts. Understand that most prospective employers don’t have the time to thoroughly read résumés, so if yours is quite hard to read then don’t expect to be called back. When creating or updating your CV, it’s also important to consider the right font to use other than your résumé’s content alone. Opt for clear and readable fonts like Arial, Calibri, Helvetica and Times New Roman in creating your résumé.
    1. Ditch the Useless Headings. A good way to improve your résumé is to maximize every space on it. So if you won’t be writing down a relevant career objective or your actual references, then use the extra spaces to write about your new skills and accomplishments. This way, you get to include important and new details from your last job in your CV.

    Curriculum Vitae

    1. Place “Experience” Section above “Education”. Unless you’re a fresh graduate, it would be more logical to place your work experience first. This way, you’d be able to catch the eye of your prospective employer right from the get-go.
    1. List Your Accomplishments. These days, writing down your job description is no longer enough to convince your prospective employer to hire you. If you want to stand out from your fellow applicants, clearly state all the accomplishments you made from your last company. Be it making their operations system more efficient, or increasing their sales by 50 percent.
    1. Use Action Words. Another way to improve your résumé is by ditching the passive tenses and start using action verbs. For instance, instead of just saying “was in charge of the design for Project DEF,” you can write down “designed so-and-so for Project DEF.”

Other than preparing yourself for an interview, it’s also important that you make your résumé as appealing as possible to your prospective employers as it serves as your ticket for getting the job that you want. So start updating your CV now and turn it into one killer résumé that will help you land your dream job.

  • By now, most of us already know and practise all the basic skincare commandments to keep our skin healthy – not going to bed with your makeup on, keeping your skin moisturized and using SPF like your life depends on it. However, there’s a new complexion mandate that you may not be that familiar with, and that is using a serum. While it may not seem like it, incorporating serums into your skincare routine can actually make a big difference with the way your face looks and feels. Still not convinced? Then here are four benefits that you’ll get when you add a serum into your skincare routine.

    Inspiration-image-face-serum

    1. Improved Complexion. Most serums contain the highest concentration of active ingredients that you can get without using a prescription. It contains about 70 percent active ingredients compared to the five and 10 percent active ingredients found in moisturizers and cleansers. With this, you’ll be able to better results regardless if you’re looking to even your skin tone, reduce your fine lines or get rid of the dark spots on your face.
    1. Fewer Acne Breakouts. If you have acne-prone skin, then the more reason you should incorporate a serum in your skincare routine. Unlike most traditional moisturizers that leave pore-blocking layers atop the skin, serums are water-based. This means they absorb faster without leaving behind traces of acne-encouraging residues.

    a091cd530d2f2410fe090eec2f420a2d

    1. Get a Less Oily Complexion. Another reason why it’s worth adding serums in your skincare routine is that it keeps your complexion from getting oily. Since they’re lighter and much faster to absorb than most moisturizers, serums can keep your skin hydrated without contributing to the greasy feeling that you hate. With this, your skin will no longer overproduce sebum, making your skin less oily in the long run.
    1. Save Some Bucks. While serums can be pricier compared with other skincare products, investing into a good one can actually save you some bucks. By doing so, you’ll have one product that can really deal with your skin problems and that means you no longer need to purchase multiple skincare products that only give you half-baked results. Trust us. Once you find the perfect serum for you, you’ll never spend your hard-earned cash on anything else again.

Looking for the skincare product that will give you the perfect complexion that you’ve always wanted can be quite difficult. But by adding a serum into your skincare routine, you’ll no longer need to look for any other products to give you gorgeous results.

    1. Cauliflower Mac and Cheese

One popular substitute for pasta is cauliflower, which is a versatile veggie thanks to its subtle flavour and soft texture (when cooked). Next time, when a mac-and-cheese craving kicks in, whip up a cheesy cauliflower for a guilt-free alternative. Additional tip: reach for parmesan cheese in making your creamy sauce. It lends the dish a more distinct cheesy flavour without the need for handfuls of cheese.

    1. Zucchini Fettuccine

If you despise the bloated feeling you get from indulging in a plate of Alfredo, you might want to substitute conventional fettuccine noodles with zucchini fettuccine. With a peeler, shave a whole zucchini to create strands of faux noodles. Boil your faux noodles for a few minutes before plating and add in your favourite pasta sauce.

    1. Avocado Frosting

Admittedly, avocadoes are not veggies, they’re fruits; but they contain impressive nutritional contents and a smooth and creamy texture that can be easily incorporated to different dishes. Share some time and space with your partner. An intimate time together makes each other feel secured despite all the fights and the crazy schedules. Kiss your partner slowly and mindfully, and enjoy every second of the experience.

There are no perfect relationships, so there’s no need to strive for perfection. If you embrace each other’s imperfections and learn to deal with them, that’s how you’re likely to have a long and happy relationship.

The word thin is something that we would like to hear in reference to our body, but never to our hair. But it’s never too late to save your strand when you notice that you’ve been shedding more than usual lately. Know what causes your hair to fall out through this article, so that you can start improving its health and bring back its original volume.

    1. Donning Tight Hairstyles

Regularly sporting tight hairstyles like braids and ponytails is what usually puts excessive strain on the hair follicles, which leads to irreparable hair damage. Singapore hair experts said that tight hairstyles usually causes traction alopecia, a non-reversible hair loss caused by tight hairstyles. Prevent this by loosening up your hairstyle, or wearing your locks down more often.

    1. Going For Steamy Showers

Going straight for a hot shower is another habit that might be thinning your hair out. Being exposed to too much heat dries out the hair, causing it to become more brittle and snap. Other than that, hot showers also strip out the hair’s natural oils, leading to hair fall and damage.

    1. Excessive Sun Exposure

Your skin isn’t the only thing that can be damaged by the sun’s UV rays, since your hair is at risk too. Prolonged sun exposure is what weakens the hair and causes hair loss, so protect your strands by covering it up with a hair scarf or a hat every time you go out in the sun.

    1. Skipping Shampoo

Not shampooing and washing your hair often also weaken the hair. This happens because the build-up of products and dead skin cells clog the follicles, making it difficult for your new hair to grow.

    1. Too Much Crash Dieting

Apart from your waistline, excessive dieting also thins out your hair. Just like any part of our body, our hair also needs nourishment and starving it will cause it to fall off. Singapore health professionals even said that anorexic people often suffer hair loss.

    1. Using Strong-Hold Hair Products

Applying long lasting and strong gels and hair sprays often make hair stiff, making it more prone to breakage. Aside from making the hair stiff, excessive usage of these products also dries out the hair. To prevent this from happening, avoid using products that makes your hair gluey and stiff.

    1. Drying The Regular Way

Drying your hair the regular way will only flatten your hair and make it look thinner than it really is. To avoid damage and give your hair more volume, flip your head upside down then blow dry it.

    1. Frequent Head Scratching

If you have a rather itchy scalp, try putting a few drops of tea tree oil in your shampoo as you shower. Avoid scratching your head frequently as it will damage your hair follicle, leading to hair loss. If the itching still persists despite trying some treatment, do yourself a favour and visit your doctor.

  • The size and shape of our eyes is determined genetically, and there’s just nothing that we can do about it. Luckily, it’s possible for us to create an illusion of having bigger eyes by using ingenious makeup techniques. Here are some makeup tricks and tips that Singaporean girls like me, can use to make their small eyes stand out.

    1. Groom your eyebrows. The first tip to create an illusion of bigger eyes is to regularly groom your eyebrows. Having your brows beautifully groomed will not just make your eyes stand out, but will also look a bit larger. Keep them a little thin on the sides and make sure that there are no stray hairs. This will help in highlighting and making your eyes pop.
    1. Use lighter eye shadow for your lids. Using pale shades of eye shadow is another makeup trick to enhance the shape and size of your eyes. It can be any colour of your choice, but make sure that it is pale and works best for your eye colour.
    1. Conceal the dark circles. Dark circles under your eyes is another factor that makes your eyes appear smaller. Use a concealer set in a shade that’s lighter than your natural complexion to hide your dark circles. This will not just make your eyes look brighter, it will also make you look younger.
    1. Minimize the eyeliner. Another tip that Singaporean girls should do is to apply their eyeliner close to the outer lash line of their eyes. Start applying in the middle of your upper lash line, gradually extending it to the outer corner of your eye. This trick will make your eyes bigger, while adding a sophisticated elegance to your look.
    1. Lightly smudge your eyeliner. Smudging your eyeliner is another great tip to make your eyes look bigger. But don’t make it look too smudgy. Use your smudge stick to lightly smudge the end of your pencil eyeliner.

    1. Add some colour and shimmer. In doing your eye makeup, try using colours that have a little shimmer. This will put more emphasis on your eyes and make them look bigger, brighter and more seductive.
    1. Curl your eyelashes. Make curling your lashes a regular part of your makeup routine to enhance the size and shape of your eyes. Curling your lashes will definitely open your eyes and make them look like they’re sparkling.
    1. Combine your lengthening and volumizing mascara. One of the best tricks to make your small eyes pop is to use both your volumizing and lengthening mascara. Curl your lashes first, then apply a coat of your lengthening mascara followed by the volumizing formula. Concentrate on applying these formulas on your top lashes to make your eyes look larger.

There’s really no need to go overboard with black eyeliner and bright eye shadows just to make your eyes bigger. Using the right colours and makeup tricks is all you need to achieve that goal. So go ahead, try these tricks and make those eyes pop and stand out.
